  10.      The programs on this disc form part of a series of Language Tutors for
  11.      learning French, Spanish, German, Italian and Hebrew.
  12.  
  13.      Each disc is self-contained and offers a complete tutorial on one
  14.      language.  The following text refers to all the tutorials.
  15.  
  16.      LANGUAGE TEACHER is a series of menu-driven language tutorial programs
  17.      designed to be run on the IBM PC/XT/AT/jr or any compatible clone.
  18.      Each program in the series contains hundreds of word combinations and
  19.      verb conjugation forms. A line printer can be used with LANGUAGE
  20.      TEACHER to take advantage of its versatility.
  21.  
  22.      Also included is the capability to select language-to-English or
  23.      English- to-language combinations, choose multiple choice answers, be
  24.      retested on misses, print a multiple choice test, and to run a full
  25.      quiz diagnostic routine with line printer output. Of particular
  26.      interest to non-English students is the capability to select the
  27.      direction of the combinations.

  29.      All word, phrase, and verb conjugation selections are done randomly by
  30.      the program the the user being unable to predict what the next
  31.      selection will be. The program package is not designed to teach
  32.      conversational language or pronunciation but, instead, to provide
  33.      practice drills in order to increase your working vocabulary and to
  34.      enhance your use of the conjugation forms.
  35.  
  36.      The LANGUAGE TEACHER series was originally published by Acorn Software
  37.      Products, Inc. of Washington, DC. Since then the company has gone out
  38.      of business and the author is releasing the series to the Public
  39.      Domain. If you find any of the programs in the series to be usefull, a
  40.      suitable payment ($5 to $10) would be appreciated so more programs of
  41.      this quality can be developed.

  43.      PROGRAM SPECIFICATIONS:
  44.  
  45.      Minimum system configuration: LANGUAGE TEACHER is written in Microsoft
  46.      Basic and requires a minimum of 64K bytes of RAM and Advanced Basic,
  47.      one disk drive and a suitable high resolution monitor. Preferred
  48.      monitors are the IBM Monochrome Display attached to the IBM Monochrome
  49.      Display and Printer Adapter or a green screen or "direct drive" RGB
  50.      monitor attached to the Color/Graphics Monitor Adapter. In most cases,
  51.      only a high quality color monitor or green screen will provide the
  52.      resolution necessary to display the special chaaracters used with
  53.      LANGUAGE TEACHER. All other program functions will be suitable,
  54.      though, if a low quality color composite monitor is used.

  56.      Optional equipment includes an 80 column line printer.
  57.  
  58.      SPECIAL CHARACTER SET:
  59.  
  60.      LANGUAGE TEACHER utilizes the special function keys to input the
  61.      special characters used in the language. These keys are active only
  62.      when a non-multiple choice drill is selected in which you must enter
  63.      the direct equivalent of the required answer. The 25th line of the
  64.      screen will display which function key is associated with which
  65.      foreign character.

  67.      NOTE: Due to the inability of the average line printer to be able to
  68.      recognize these special characters, programming is implemented to
  69.      convert these special characters to their "normal" letters before
  70.      being output to the line printer. Once you have obtained your
  71.      printout, insert the special marks by hand.

  73.     MISCELLANEOUS:

  75.      If a multiple choice type quiz has been selected, you will only be
  76.      given 15 seconds (25 seconds for verb conjugation) to input your
  77.      answer. If the time expires before you make your choice, you will be
  78.      credited with an incorrect answer. NOTE: If the computer performs its
  79.      "garbage collection" routine while timing is in progress, program
  80.      coding is implemented to prevent your time remaining from falling to
  81.      zero.

  83.      If you have not chosen a multiple choice type of quiz, you will have
  84.      to type in the exact answer. In the case of being quizzed with a noun,
  85.      you must also type in the definite article ("the") that proceeds the
  86.      noun.

  88.      If your original option was the verb conjugation drill, no retesting
  89.      can be performed. Also, the diagnostic display will let you know how
  90.      many of each person and tense you missed. If you missed more than 3 of
  91.      any person/tense, an "*" is displayed beside the applicable
  92.      person/tense, indicating you need more practice.

  96.      The extent of the vocabulary of each program is given below. Since the
  97.      program randomly selects from its contents in each option, you truly
  98.      have a thorough drill in each language!

  100.      SPANISH I: 750 Spanish/English word combinations, 1488 verb
  101.      conjugations and 150 Spanish/English phrase combinations.

  103.      SPANISH II: 800 Spanish/English word combinations and 2108 verb
  104.      conjugation forms.

  106.      FRENCH I: 784 French/English word combinations, 1600 verb conjugations
  107.      and 196 French/English phrase combinations.

  109.      FRENCH II: 864 French/English word combinations and 1600 verb
  110.      conjugation forms.

  112.      GERMAN I: 800 German/English word combinations, 1860 verb conjugations
  113.      and 160 German/English phrase combinations.

  115.      GERMAN II: 800 German/English word combinations and 2015 verb
  116.      conjugation forms.
